Go to next file in directory?
Okay, seems like there's no built-in option to do this. Thanks to the last comment on this post (https://www.reddit.com/r/software/comments/592agc/how_do_i_autoplay_the_next_file_in_the_folder_in/), I found this lua script which works perfectly: https://github.com/jonniek/mpv-nextfile To bind to another shortcut (in my case, Ctrl+n and Ctrl+b) just modify the last lines of the script to fit your shortcut, or use the input.conf as stated there, but I had no idea where that was. There's also this script for playlist managing: https://www.reddit.com/r/mpv/comments/ns3kul/question_about_the_lua_scripts_mpvplaylist_manager/ And you can check the list of userscripts here: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts

are there any mpv frontends that make mpv look like a streaming service?
This script is the closest I can find, there's room for improvement but I can see the potential.

Looking for a simple video player frontend.
I believe I've found a solution since posting this. I think mpv and this Gallery View mpv script will be able to do what I want.

Imagorvideo β video thumbnail server using RMSE in Go and FFmpeg C bindings
Sounds like it might also be useful for implementing "contact sheet" plugins for media players, like https://github.com/occivink/mpv-gallery-view (I believe this script presently re-opens the video file for each screenshot it makes, rather than seeking)

Why mp_event_loop() change to subdir cause add_key_binding not work
