I built a website to randomly pick movies to watch
Hey everybody, I just wanted to share moviexyz, the first project I built from start to finish, without following any course or tutorial.
Hey guys, I think reddit deleted my post due to low karma and my account being too new. I didn't know about these restrictions. Anyways, I see there's still traffic to the website, I believe it's coming from the link in the preview of the post. I just wanted to add that you can check the GitHub repository to see more information about the project. Thanks!

Show HN: OSS Next.js 13 app to find great movies
Hey HN,
I built next-movie for two reasons:
1. To scratch my own itch and experiment with Next.js 13's new appDir architecture based around react server components
2. To build a better experience for finding great movies
I definitely accomplished #1 and #2 is a WIP.
Currently, you can filter / sort by IMDB rating, Rotten Tomatoes scores, genre, and more. All movies include the best official trailer on YouTube according to a heuristic, and you can view search results by 3 different layouts: Grid (netflix-style), List, and Single.
Single-movie view is for people like myself who are tired of looking at endless feeds... it will give you a single movie matching your search at a time, with a big "Next Movie" button to cycle through the results one-at-a-time.
The algo to pick the next movie is actually really interesting.. it uses a 2D dissolve effect to traverse the search space (with a random offset generated client-side), making it so you cycle through movies seemingly at random but without duplicates. The app is open source on GitHub here: https://github.com/transitive-bullshit/next-movie
Cheers,
