As a programmer you will really appreciate the Metadata Menu plugin. It adds the concept of classes (sort of) to Obsidian. demo 6: FileClass does exactly what you want. When you enable Dataview, Templater, and Metadata Menu plugins to Obsidian you essentially have a powerful object oriented database platform.

But this ends up with the same results. There is currently an issue open on the Metaedit github to which I've added this information as well. But maybe someone has already solved this / found a workaround...
