I'm surprised you find its readability poor. The font is Ysabeau, an open source font similar to Garamond, which scores very well for reading speed. Of course everyone is different.

Maybe a sans-serif font that could work specially well in this case is Ysabeau. Another one that looks very nice (though I have no idea if it matches well with EB Garamond) is Alegreya Sans.
