Laravel Valet is a development environment for macOS and configures your Mac to always run Nginx in the background when your machine starts, and then, using DnsMasq, proxies all requests on the *.test domain to point to sites installed on your local machine.

In this post I will not cover the configuration of the AMP stack, however there are several solutions on the market such as MAMP, Vagrant or Valet.

I did have a few issues early on, but no issues the past two months. A Valet/Docker conflict happened to be resolved by newer Docker release. I had to perform a clean install of macOS after a Big Sur upgrade failure. Homebrew was updated in February to run natively on M1, meaning PHP and other Homebrew-installed apps are very fast!

The security impact for using sudoers to give Valet sudo rights has also been discussed by the community on this Github thread concerning the issue.

We increase the version of our product as specified in SemVer and deploy it to production, preferably following good deployment practices to have no downtime.
