Returning to KSP after 5 years...
As it sounds like you probably have a good sense of the game, I'd recommend trying KSRSS Reborn, a 2.7x stock scale RSS. At 2.7x scale, you still use stock parts, but they feel more like IRL balance, so rockets can't really ssto with useful payload, spaceplane sstos are harder but feasible, and heatshields actually needed, a nice way to make the game feel fresh without hitting Realism Overhaul levels, and the perfect balance for stock parts, IMO.

You should not have BoulderCo with KSRSS. And the newer versions of KSRSS don't come with KSRSSVE nor KSRSS-Textures. You should download it from here: https://gitlab.com/ksrss/KSRSS/-/archive/reborn/KSRSS-reborn.zip

need some help with installing ksrss
Do you have Kopernicus and its dependencies? Also, if you want a more up to date version, install the Reborn version from here. Be aware though that it comes at about 2.7x Kerbal scale or 1/9th real scale, which in my (and many other's) opinion is perfectly suited to stock parts and stockalike part mods. If you want it at stock scale, then you'll wanna install the old version.
