Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

I'm aware that I can't just build a jar because JFX requires operating-system-specific native libraries. So I was wondering what an alternative to the old javafx-gradle-plugin by FibreFoX would be.

Gradle also has https://github.com/michel-kraemer/gradle-download-task which still isn't exaclty what you want, but we're getting there...
