factorio VS factorio-docker-watchdog

Any help would be much appreciated! For what it's worth, I created a very simple workaround in the form of a git repo and shell script to push your local changes to the repo and pull them down on another computer when needed. You can check that out here if that sounds interesting to you. I'd also love to hear any suggestions for improvements you may have, I'm not super familiar with shell scripting either.

Spin up a docker instance https://github.com/factoriotools/factorio-docker, forward the router ports & slap a quick password on the factorio server.

I was working with this repo, which seems to be the most popular solution. The issue I can't resolve is that Docker would complain that it was unable to create the require directories as it doesn't have permission. I tried to troubleshoot myself but was unable to do so (I'm not very familiar with Docker unfortunately). I'm working with a Mac and have the most recent version of Docker installed.

My buddy and I have been playing normal multiplayer and I just got all the hardware I need to start a server and was looking at doing it through docker with factoriotools. I didn't see anything about being able to import an old save and I don't want to start over since we were really close to the rocket. Does anybody know if you can import a save? Thanks in advance!

I saw there was another repository, https://github.com/factoriotools/factorio-docker-watchdog . I'm not quite sure what it does, but is it something I could use to automatically do this whenever there's an update?
