Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

I want to be able to FULLY customise my about:home page.
I use New Tab Override and redirect it to a home page hosted on github. I don't remember who I got the code for my page from, but you can clone mine if you want.

How to make a page as the new tab page
You'll have to use an extension: (firefox) (chromium)
- addon to display all bookmarks on new tab.
- Where is about:newtab stored on Linux so i can symlink it to my custom page. Are there any better alternatives?

A double-sided themed home page
In firefox with this extension and paste the url(I reccomend to select the focus option) and going to Settings >Home > New Windows and Tabs and select custom url and you paste the url.

How to create just 1 more newtab tile in newtab homepage.
You are probably better of with a custom new tab page extension which there are plenty of on AMO, New Tab Override for example has a lot of options among them the option to use a local HTML file.
