As others have said, it's not as straightforward because the CID is a hash of the data's encoding which is not the same as the data itself (it is chunked into pieces to facilitate incremental verifiability, better caching, etc.).

Here is the master issue on the IPFS side tracking "verifiable gateway responses": https://github.com/ipfs/in-web-browsers/issues/128. As you can see, there are significant technical challenges but consistent progress is being made.

Looks like there are some web browser clients but you still need to have a server provide the scripts or have the user download it. https://github.com/ipfs/in-web-browsers

We need good patterns for ‘dereferencing’ dns-bound identifiers like many https://{dns} URLs into something like a multiformats/cid[1]

Verification would require more data than CID itself provides (ipld document layout, chunking algorithm, max chunk sizes...).

    See https://github.com/multiformats/cid/issues/22

The CID tells you its hashing scheme, and possibly its chunking scheme (via its serialization tag). This is an important and very intentional property of the CID. See the CID specification at https://github.com/multiformats/cid .
