Long story short: I wrote a Ruby extension in Zig
You can call Ruby script in Crystal though. [0]
And I think Zig would be easier to maintain compare to Rust because it is a simpler language. Sure there is a lot of breaking changes, but it's not much of trouble for a language that can be read in one afternoon (referring to the single page document).
What are some alternatives?
crystal-diff - A Crystal sequence differencing implementation
promise - A Promise Implementation in Crystal
wafalyzer - Web Application Firewall (WAF) Detector
m3u8 - Generate and parse m3u8 playlists for HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) in Crystal.
stumpy_png - Read/Write PNG images in pure Crystal
neph - A modern command line job processor, similar with make command
etag - Library to generate HTTP ETags
wikicr - Wiki in crystal, using Markdown and Git, inspired by dokuwiki. Last features to build are pretty hard, if you have some time to help... :)
syscall.cr - syscall interface for Crystal
aasm.cr - :arrows_clockwise: Easy to use finite state machine for Crystal classes
cltk - A crystal port of the Ruby Language Toolkit
