Chat control: Leaked Commission paper EU mass surveillance plans
I am not listing Signal directly here, since they would most likely fall under the proposed legislation. Though that shouldn't stop you from using Signal today, the only messenger, that actually respects your privacy by not collecting data. (And I could see them adopting a P2P infrastructure, if this law ever came into force.)

Paying back Clive for all those f&*king text messages

Friendly reminder that Facebook and by extension WhatsApp spies on you. If you value your privacy give signal a go. Itβs similar to whatsapp but is actually secure.

Subscription-based monthly charges are eating everyone alive and no one is pissed off enough about it to do anything.
OSS sometimes has advantages and other times is bad. For example I don't know a good OSS photo editing software. GIMP is clunky. Inkscape isn't too bad. But on the other hand there are tools like CryptPad that are open sourced and more secure alternatives to popular software (in this case Google Suite or Office 365). Or things like Signal. There's a slow turn towards privacy and "best of both worlds" but it is slow and we need more momentum.
