How do you turn off the yellow highlighting after your done with the search?
I used :noh for a while but now I’m using https://github.com/rktjmp/highlight-current-n.nvim, which does more than what you might be looking for (it only highlights the current match).

Plugin: bling.vim
highlight-current-n may do what you want, though it "holds" the highlight until you move, it doesn't flash.

Those who once used Vim as their main text editor/IDE and switched away after the fact, why?
If you wanna come back to the paths of the lord, you could give a try to Nyoom.nvim, it's an nvim config very similar to Doom Emacs written in the lisp Fennel which then compiles to Lua. VimL sucks
