Mainly because I needed/wanted/could and there wasn't already something around that did the job.

Ah, the "hall of shame" HN thead I have been waiting for! Too many to recount here, but the one I probably sunk in most time was fauxjsp [1], a dev-friendly reimplementation of java server pages. I don't regret spending time on the project because it was fun, it was time I couldn't/wouldn't have spent on anyting better and I learned a bit about software architecture.

Are you using all extractors when saving a page?

I tried ArchiveBox and Shiori, but neither stuck for some reason. The latter is a bit more lightweight, it can save the entire page as well as a Readability-based conversion: https://github.com/go-shiori/shiori/

I use https://github.com/go-shiori/shiori. It has a reader and archive mode. Go and uses a SQLite database, so it also has search. I've had it running for a few years, but don't use it much, so can't really speak to how well searching performs.
