What's your opinion on React state management in 2021?
Iβve worked with redux in react (and tried a lot of other less popular ones), vuex on vue part and ngrx store on angular part. And always react + anything felt off and hard for some stuff. Until I had enough and designed state manager myself (itβs called Exome) and honestly working with ir feels natural and easy. Iβm using it already ir two production projects.

Announcing new and simple state manager βExomeβ
So those were my initial goals and in a single evening I came up with Exome and developed a prototype. I was so happy with it that I decided to make it open source. It really hits all of the goals I set and more. Only issue is that it doesn't support IE11, since it uses Proxy. But in my case it didn't matter.

Replacing redux with custom hooks and react hooks
If you want to move to hooks for state management I suggest ReactN.

React state management libraries in 2022
I love ReactN.

What's best practice for managing state without Redux?
Look into ReactN which uses hooks, has lower overhead, no boilerplate, and is much easier to use and learn than Redux.

State Management Recommendation - Working with APIs
I myself started a few years ago using ReactN which intends to implement global state management in a similar way like the local state in react works. But since this is a monolithic store too I recently switched to (the very unknown) React Capsule which is from the same dev, extremely lightweight, similar to recoil and intends to use encapsulated state which can be used either in plain JS, in class components, as well as in function components.
What are some alternatives?
resso - πͺ’ The simplest React state manager
oidc-client - Light, Secure, Pure Javascript OIDC (Open ID Connect) Client. We provide also a REACT wrapper (compatible NextJS, etc.).

unstated-next - 200 bytes to never think about React state management libraries ever again
statemanjs - Proper state manager for JavaScript
state - π Tiny and powerful React hook-based state management library.
use-color - πΌπΌπΌ The powerful color hook that all designers deserve. β¨ Parse and stringify that just works & π¦Ύ Strict type checking at compile time
visual-ts-examples - Visual TS Game engine access from node module (npm service) Video chat , multiplayer with physics, platformer , 2d map creator GUI py etc.
react-cool-form - π π React hooks for forms state and validation, less code more performant.
euc-frontend - A torrent tracker frontend written in React
valtio - π Valtio makes proxy-state simple for React and Vanilla
actual-malware - Useful library dependency
