I think the dude ' s dots you want to use is using the git master version and you are using the stable version ? Maybe. The stable version is too old. And the Git master version some new Api's. up to date. So try using the git master version.

Terminal emulators - I don't get it
There is other terminal emulator focused on speed, Alacritty, which is actually pretty customizable, but you have to change configuration files, but some users have done their own job on making this task easier and less "time consuming", take as an example the script Pycritty which reduces this task just to a simple command line (if you use Alacritty I recommended this script, it's actually really young, the installer might not work sometimes, but you can contribute to it if you like it).
