Can a language ever be faster than its parent language?
I did the same thing for maps backed by prefix trees, in particular crit-bit trees. However, these are just specialized search trees for bit string keys.

I am not the first one to come up with this idea, but I rediscovered it independently. Also, cmlib's implementation uses partial functions, whereas mine uses only total ones.
