I started to use nix and use it to provide dependencies and build environments for my projects via nix-shell. The projects that use nix reside in a mono repository and depend on each other where the overall structure follows a setup similar to nix cmake example, where each subproject has it's own overlay, which is combined at the top with a pinned version of nixpkgs.
