How Discord Stores Billions of Messages (2017)
> There are alternate Discord clients, and — unlike Slack — Discord doesn't try to actively prevent people from writing alternate clients against their API.
Yes, they do.

> Hey, so I know this is somewhat of a bummer, but I got banned because of ToS violation today. This seemed to be connected to creating a new PM channel via the /users/@me endpoint. As that's basically a confirmation for what we've believed would never be enforced, I decided to not work on the cordless project anymore. I'll be taking down cordless in package managers in hope that no new users will install it anymore without knowing the risks. I believe that if you manage to build it yourself, you've probably read the README and are aware of the risks. I'll keep the repository up, but might archive it at some point. And yes, you'll still be able to use existing binaries for as long as discord doesn't introduce any more breaking changes. However, be aware that the risk of getting a ban will only get higher with time!

Watch Together is a self-contradictory mess
ahh. we use the activity bot. i didnt even know discord implemented that themselves
- Activities bot - How does this work?
-
Does anyone know how to make this activity thing pop up in VCs in my own server?
It’s slowly rolling out to servers meanwhile you can use This bot
-
Sorry if it's a dumb question, but why don't i have the "start activity" rocket icon?
Allows you to launch activities, which are essentially games that you can play within voice channels. See this support article for more information on them. You can use bots (e.g. this one) to create invites to launch them if you don't have the button
-
You can play skribbl.io in discord..?
discord has been working on activities for the past year, hasn't been rolled out, but to use them early you can join discord games lab or use the activities bot
-
Video Bot?
The bot itself is not the one that is streaming - bots cannot stream video, the API blocks it. That bot is creating an invite to start an activity (an official upcoming feature, various things to play in voice channels), which is something that any bot can do. The Activities bot allows you to create an invite for any activity, including YouTube Together
-
What happened to discord watch together feature?
It's still in development/testing, not cancelled to my knowledge. You can use a bot to create the invite that starts it, such as this one
-
Groovy, a popular music bot, announces them ending their services on August 30th
They actually are working on a similar thing, called YouTube Together. Any bot can create an invite for it, one being Activities. There might still be some bugs with it, as I don’t think it’s been officially announced (like in a blog post) let alone released for the client to make yet.
-
They Certainly are.
You can play the Poker Game (or any activity) using the Activities Bot
-
Discord Youtube Together
This Activities Bot on GitHub can do this as an example
