I prefer env vars too. After looking for a way to handle encrypted files with dotenv, I ended up adding EJSON support to ops, so I could just put my env vars in secrets.ejson and check it in if I wanted.

I ported a CLI tool I created from Ruby to Crystal, and it’s faster and it’s easier to install than the gem. The tool allows you to add simple automation with low cognitive overhead to any project without complex tools like Rake or Gradle.
