Bandcamp's Entire Union Bargaining Team Was Laid Off
I would like to see something like Castopod [0], but for artists! Spinning up a website where you showcase and sell your music should (and could!) be as easy as using Wordpress, either via a subscription or self-hosted – on your own domain.
Being plugged into the Fediverse makes it much easier to interact with fans and build a connection with your audience. It also makes it easy for people to share and talk about a track or and album. None of this requires that you tie yourself to yet another VC-funded startup and a closed garden.
Maybe someone is building something like this already, that I am not aware of?

Cheap Podcast File Hosting?
I'm planning on spinning up multiple podcasts. Since I'm quite good with webhosting I'm thinking of spinning up a cheap castopod.org instance instead of paying potentially a lot (in the future, if they happen to get downloaded a lot). Only problem of course is the traffic that comes from having to server every episode's files from a server, because cheap hosting generally has bandwith (and computational) limitations. Are there any platforms/CDNs yuo can recommend for hosting the audio files for free/cheaply? Thanks for any tips :)

The free and open-source solution to your podcasting 2.0 journey
The code is horrible:
https://github.com/ad-aures/castopod/blob/develop/app/Views/...
Tight coupling of the HTML/PHP and JS.
If they were going to use PHP, at least they could have used Laravel or Symfony and had standardized libraries for authentication, views etc.
I just checked their Composer.json, looks like it uses CodeIgniter ... so maybe there is a framework in there but still the code quality is atrocious:

What Are The Coolest Virtual Machines You Currently Run 24/7?
I currently have it turned off while I search for better sources, but I have a VM that runs a custom cron script that combines a custom RSS reader, podfox, mercury-parser, and coqui-ai to generate audio podcasts from RSS news feeds. I should probably clean it up and release the script/setup process. With a few tweaks and some AI text-to-speech and a little machine learning audio processing you can get a really good podcast experience from text posts.
