A Eulogy for Dark Sky, a Data Visualization Masterpiece
Oh man I miss Dark Sky. I have yet to find a weather app as good. briefsky[0] was recently posted on here and I think I'll try using it for a while. Also of note is Pirate Weather[1], a weather API in the same style as Dark Sky.

Yeah I pinned https://briefsky.app/ as an "app" to my iPhone. It gets me 20% of the way there

Show HN: Briefsky – a free Dark Sky clone for multiple weather APIs
For a long while, I had been looking for Weather Apps with great UIs. They seemed so hard to find.
Now I have two that looked great on the Desktop!
https://merrysky.net/ and https://briefsky.app/
Only tested on the Desktop but I'm finding I have to do a bit more work (vs MerrySky) - that is, I have to keep clicking each day.
Usability could be improved if today's weather information bar automatically displayed when accessing the page. Maybe the settings could add a toggle ON option for:
() today only
() all days.

Pirate Weather
> Before going any farther, I wanted to add a link to sign up and support this project! Running this on AWS means that it scales beautifully and is much more reliable than if I was trying to host this, but also costs real money.

That looks like a pretty complex architecture. I wonder if instead of financial support, what the author really needs is help figuring out a more cost-effective solution.

For anyone procrastinating on finding another weather data source before the Dark Sky shutdown next week, I put together a drop-in compatible/ free/ documented API called Pirate Weather.
All the processing scripts are in the GitHub repository. Since releasing it last year, the API has come a long way, squashing a ton of bugs and improving stability. The community feedback has been invaluable, and I’ll be continuing to make improvements to it over time, with better text summaries coming next!
