Disclaimer: I'm not someone with "years" of experience, but lisps have remained well-respected albeit unpopular in decades. And plenty of serious lispers and projects exist. (See awesome-cl-software.) Also there certainly exist obnoxious lispers, but people do try hard to remain welcoming as a community.
