Plex Displaying Incorrect AudioBook Author Metadata
Personally I've used Audnexus for audiobooks. It has Audible built in search support, so I can simply search using 'Fix match' feature in plex, and it will search Audible for the book. Most of the time I can find the book, otherwise I manually edit them.

/r/Plex's Moronic Mondays' No Stupid Questions Thread - 2022-07-18
There are currently issues with the API (https://github.com/laxamentumtech/audnexus/issues/414), so that might be part of the problem.

My first attempt at coding, be warned
I'm a bit iffy on how the two-step verification is handled. I don't think just hoping the challenge magically won't appear the second time is a sensible approach. I would expect completing a challenge gets you some kind of token that the script should present as a proof that, well, the challenge has been completed. In this video, they seem to be doing exactly that: the broken "maplanding" url that the captcha page sends you to is actually used by their script, presumably because it contains the proof. Significant research is needed here. There are projects for interfacing with Audible and Alexa that seem to be using the same system, maybe they could lend some expertise.

Downloading Clips
It's definitely possible but I don't know of an easy way. There's a python audible api and a CLI wrapper for it. You can search this documentation page for "sample". Those are the api calls which will give you the url of the sample clip's audio file.

Audible is just begging to be pirated
If you don't mind the lack of graphical interface there's also a cross platform python library with a CLI layer. It's not as intuitive to use but it's very powerful.
