Buying an appartmemt in Switzerland
Conveyal r5 and analysis-ui to generate the isochrone itself and then I loaded it into QGIS to overlay it over a nicer base layer (the Thunderforest Transport style for OSM).

Which coding language might be helpful for me to self-study as an undergrad in planning?
Other Languages - Languages like C++, Java, Rust, Go, and others are used to build planning tools, games, or sims. Examples include Conveyals Analysis tools or A/B Street. In transportation + environmental planning I have seen more applications of these languages than other sectors, but it is often by actual software developers rather than planners (or highly specialized planners). Often libraries such as Numpy, Pandas, or similar have their actual operations written in C++ for example to provide speed that comes from using lower level languages.

Noob request: help optimize my text processing code
Ah, they're the output of specialized software to calculate point-to-point travel times by routing along a street network. The input CSVs are large because of routing from many origins to many destinations, usually all US census blocks to all nearby census blocks.
