I advise you, and anyone else reading this, NOT to try fumbling your way through uninstalling Lightning -- there is a specific procedure that needs to be followed. Profile Switcher is part of that procedure, but there are multiple other steps. See https://github.com/acquia/lightning/wiki/Uninstalling-Lightning.

Removing acquia lightning without removing the dependency modules?
The official Lightning uninstall process does the same overall thing -- it has you remove the distribution, but not the support modules. Only the distribution is being end-of-lifed. See https://github.com/acquia/lightning/wiki/Uninstalling-Lightning

Drupal and git - please tell me your way?
IF, you are using composer on your deployment targets… The only thing you need to store in git is your composer.json and composer.lock files, AND the /modules/custom/ directory and /themes/custom/ directory. (There’s some other tangentel files, like .gitignore and some other stuff you want in GIT, but it’s a MUCH smaller repository, since you don’t need to move around ALL of the files. Are you using something like this : https://github.com/drupal-composer/drupal-project ?
