Zero-k: A libre sci-fi RTS game, with an economy based on metal and energy
Games have their own distribution method, but you can download the source and the engine will handle it. In ZeroKs case (https://github.com/ZeroK-RTS/Zero-K/).
The most straightforward method to compile it reliably I'd say is with the docker container: https://github.com/ZeroK-RTS/Zero-K/

Electronic Arts today announced that it will be laying off approximately 6% of its staff as part of a restructuring plan that also includes optimizing its real estate portfolio and re-focusing its efforts around growth opportunities.

- Would it be a really bad idea to make your game open source? Give it a forum where anyone can commission features, and ask for donations from players/ modders to fund managing and debugging the project, keeping it a coherent whole.

Admin gets player who beat him banned!
You were not banned for nor accused of lagging out any games. The lag caused in the game(s) in question was generated by a mass of lua error messages (they are propagated over the network for debugging reasons and the error in question occurs every game frame or so). I am the one who investigated and submitted a bug fix for the very error you're trying to pin as the reason you were banned. (See 52ec537) For further proof, this bug was known at the time to produce this problem in multiple games here's a couple of them:

How to build the game from source?
If you want to develop the engine https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/spring, checkout GitHub wiki of that repository which contains compile instructions with docker, without and for MSVC setup.

What is your Reason for "Beyond all Reasons" existence
Many current BAR developers are old BA devs. Many old BA players are current BAR players. Then also the engine fork happened (Recoil) (https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/spring) for similar reason as above, and Recoil+BAR currently receive the most active development, with other Spring RTS games like Zero-K also migrating to Recoil.

offline lan :(
All is about providing a correct start script for each player: https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/spring/blob/BAR105/doc/StartScriptFormat.txt

Played BAR tonight
Yes, it's using continuously developed fork (https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/spring) of the Spring RTS engine.
- Nintendo classic 'Zelda: A Link to the Past' gets an unofficial PC port | It has key enhancements like widescreen support, faster transitions and pixel shaders.

How to smooth and spread A* paths for an RTS
Well, my personal preference is for Zero-K/Spring, because I actually like micro :
http://zero-k.info/
But BAR/Spring seems like it would fit you better (it's also the closest of them to TA, which is otherwise a bit old these days) :

(BAR used to stand for Balanced Annihilation Reloaded, while Zero-K used to be called Complete Annihilation.)
