Building own receiver without sharing to other feeders
I am a software developer and interested in building my own ADSB receiver without feeding data to feeders like FlightAware. Most tutorials I look at are for feeding data to third parties. I would like to store nearby aircraft data myself, analyse it and display it on my own map. Are there many open source options for me to do this? I've heard of RTL1090 and VRS flights db but I'm not sure how extensible they are (e.g. if I would like to plot aircraft on Google Maps, for example).

If you don't want to feed any of the sites you don't have to, just install the decoder. I would recommend using wiedehopf's fork of readsb (which is a fork of dump1090) and tar1090 for a map display. He has a script which will install it here: https://github.com/wiedehopf/adsb-scripts/wiki/Automatic-installation-for-readsb

I'd recommend to install this: https://github.com/wiedehopf/adsb-scripts/wiki/Automatic-installation-for-readsb The link also shows you how to check the logs for this decoder. Install it and check the log, then put the log on pastebin.com and link it here.
