I recommend the automated fix. It includes the expansion. A lot of info on old games is available at pcgamingwiki.

Using launch options to launch an entirely different executable
So I've been spending a lot of time fiddling with my Steam Deck and I was struggling trying to get the original Tomb Raider working on it. It was easy at first, using dgVoodoo2, but then I found out about the TombRaider-AutomatedFix and wanted that bad. I got it installed using a bottles environment and boom! It worked!

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition Is My Dream Game Failed!
I've been playing through the original ones, you can use community updates like Tomb1Main and TR2Main for controller support on PC. I played 1 and 2 using a wireless xbox one controller on PC, which was really nice.

Tomb Raider 1 (1996) is still amazing in 2022
If anyone is thinking of playing these days, i'd get it on sale from GOG (which is what i did) or steam, usually for less than a dollar, install and then use the Tomb1Main fan patch/update for modern quality of life stuff, which is how i was able to use an xbox controller with it, widescreen support, borrows the better UI from playstation, and other stuff.
