How can I get some free Front End experience?
Sounds like you're talking about volunteering :), just make sure they're fine with having their website being built with code, since they won't be able to edit it as easily, if they need a Blog or something like that you can look at this repo

Starter kit v4 - I created a website starter kit with 5 pages, all mobile first html and css only, responsive navigation, working dark mode, and a functional blog that connects to Netlify cms for clients to make their own edits. I start all my sites with this. Use it however you want.
Instead of looping through navPages once, you have to extract the looping through the list in a function, and recursively call it if 'entry' has children. I used this GitHub repo as a starting point for my implementation.
