Lf seems to be kind of the bspwm of file managers as far as I know. It doesn't have a built in open function and stuff like that, so you have to write your own small bash function for it. This sounds like (and is) a pain in the ass, but once you get it configured, the functionality will be exactly how you want it. Take a look at my lfrc to get a better feel for those functions I'm talking about.
