Unlocking catalyst
Look at this post, there’s instructions on how to find the game save files. This repo also has 100% save files in case you want to unlock ascensions and other stuff. Pretty much just need to copy-paste contents.

Help wanted in making a collection of preference files that unlock everything
I have created a [Github repo](https://github.com/oelna/Slay-the-Spire-Preferences) (which I hope doesn't violate the game's TOS or something) where I have collected what I have. The files there unlock all four characters and many of the cards and relics. But I can't spend an infinite amount of time on this and many things are still missing.

Anything to pay for/third party applications before playing?
As for 3rd party tools I can't recommend a loot filter enough. You can find these, along with instructions for installing them at filterblade.xyz and they are essentially files you can download that change the way loot is presented to you when it drops in game. I believe playstation had default filters provided by the developer, but on the PC version we have to install our own. The neversink filters at that url are top notch filters that are easy to customize and updated regularly to represent the current patch/economy and will make both playing and learning the game much easier.

I got banned for nothing(?) Should I continue investing my time in the game?

Is it realistically possible to start this game and play a decent chunk of what a league has to offer without following any guides?
About the only thing I use is occasionally the wiki to look up some skill effect that doesn't have a tooltip like, "Decree of Fury". And a map filter via filterblade.xyz.

Chromatic orb farming.. a little help?
loot filters are an absolute requirement to playing the game. there are far, far too many items that drop to not use one. besides hiding garbage (99% of drops in end game), they can highlight items and display them on your minimap. go to https://filterblade.xyz and start with the FAQ. the filter called 'regular' is fine for a new player while leveling

Trying to get into the game
You'll want a loot filter pretty soon, http://filterblade.xyz/ is what most people use to make/copy one.

New player, feeling lost after getting to maps
If you are playing tradeleague I recommend you do not identify any rares. Do unid chaos recipe for 2c per set. If you are new to item filters I recommend checking out filterblade.xyz - this is a website that makes filter customisation very easy. I would start with strict or very strict and then add rules for unid chaos recipe. You can also look up something called "chaos recipe enhancer" which is a program which will monitor your stash and update your item filter as you accumulate sets to turn in, as well as highlight sets to make turning in faster.

Just some questions, new player
Path of Exile is a very complicated game with lots of things to it, so there are a lot of 3rd party applications made by players to help you through the game. One of the best things a new player can do is install a lootfilter. I would recommend going to filterblade.xyz and installing one from there. Lootfilters help indicating what loot is good and what is bad. I'd recommend leaving it on default settings, and only when you feel confident change some stuff.

A question for discussion and opinions about loot mentality of Path of Exile
Now, let's say you start playing using a strict loot filter, of the sort you can create in a minute or so of clicking on filterblade.xyz. You'll soon realize that screening out just the absolute junk with no mods on it - your screen is almost barren now. This is by design as well. A lot of junk drops, but it's effectively worthless because even after you ID it, it's got that random chance to roll the lowest tier of the most useless mods no matter where you are.
What are some alternatives?
NomNom - NomNom is the most complete savegame editor for NMS but also shows additional information around the data you're about to change. You can also easily look up each item individually to examine its attributes, independently of a savegame, or get other useful information that are not related to a specific savegame (but enhanced if one is loaded).

JsonSettings - This library simplifies creating configuration for your C# app/service by utilizing the serialization capabilities of Json.NET to serialize nested (custom) objects, dictionaries and lists as simply as by creating a POCO and inheriting JsonSettings class.
ProjectFNF - ProjectFNF is a mostly quality-of-life engine for Friday Night Funkin. It is easy to understand and is super flexible.
