You can play regular charts inside of it, but it's reccomended that you just use Stepmania 5.1 Beta 2 with the Simply Love or Waterfall theme(s) for regular play.

Why did Guitar Hero die and do you think it will ever return?
Frets On Fire is the only ever 'guitar hero-like' game I played, and it was just using a keyboard - learning to smash through T. D - Tribute on hard with your F-keys was incredibly fun. I felt like the actual guitar-shaped controllers ruined the charm of it, when I could just get my Fender out.
