how do you deal with not having common useful functions and data-structures that languages like c++ have?
FWIW, there are some Fortran developers working on implementing a "Fortran Template Library" (FTL). Poking around in there may give some insight into how these things could be implemented in Fortran, and also some insight into why they have not yet been included in the standard... https://github.com/SCM-NV/ftl
