Why Not Use Testnet Before You Buy?
There is also a testnet release for blixt on the github: https://github.com/hsjoberg/blixt-wallet/releases Blixt is of course a lightning wallet. So if you wanted to play with that without using real coins this is how you would do it.

I don't think it's well known in blogs and non-dev people, but the github repo is pretty popular. It's open source, so you can have a look at the code. It has a lot of state-of-the-art features.
