There was a guy selling legit certs from junked RGs on eBay a while back. They were like $30 apiece if I recall correctly. If he's still doing it I'd recommend going that route. What I did was buy a spare NVG589 on eBay and extracted the certs from that so I wouldn't have to mess with the BGW210 I'll eventually be returning to AT&T whenever I move to another service. Here are the steps for downgrading / rooting that model. Once you have the certs, RouterOS makes it very easy to set up using the dot1X client. I've had my RG sitting in a box gathering dust for a few years now (though I originally started out with pfatt on pfSense before migrating to a MikroTik RB4011).

Help with Mikrotik hex s for AT&T fiber (x-post from homenetworking)
Nah, I just downgraded my spare RG's software and voila, root access via telnet. This GitHub page describes the process nicely. I would not recommend sharing your extracted certs. They are tied to a specific MAC that's defined in the cert so I believe they can only be used by a single device at any given time.

pfATT (wpa_supplicant method) Tutorial for NVG589 and NVG599 Owner's with ATT Fiber Internet
Note: there are no special instructions for downgrading, just go to the Management tab and select the appropriate firmware file (spnvg599-9.2.2h0d83.bin). I had to downgrade the firmware twice for it to take effect. The first attempt was with the (spnvg599-cferom-9.2.2h0d79.bin) file, but the router rebooted to its original firmware. The second attempt was with the file named above (spnvg599-9.2.2h0d83.bin) and the downgrade worked just fine, I was still able to connect to ATT’s network as well.

When comparing NVG589 and extract-mfg you can also consider the following projects:
pfatt - Enable true bridge mode for AT&T U-Verse and pfSense (this is a fork of an original repository https://github.com/aus/pfatt. Since it is not available anymore, I'll do my best to maintain a copy for people that still need a bypass)
