The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Hyprland - A dynamic tiling Wayland compositor based on wlroots that doesn't sacrifice on its looks
I also took a lot of inspiration from this NixOS config that I think demonstrates a lot of things you can do with them.

Best way to manage multiple home manager configs for both NixOS and non-NixOS systems using flakes?

Passing variables from one file to another.
The other one I've seen seems more elegant, but I've only seen once and doesn't seem to be fully explain by the author: https://github.com/MatthiasBenaets/nixos-config/blob/master/flake.nix I've tried what he's showcasing here, but it doesn't work the variables are undefined and the tips given by nix-rebuild aren't enough for me to make sense of it.

Boot Timeout not working after forced shutdown. What?
I turned my desktop on yesterday and ran the usual updates over ssh (https://gitlab.com/yramagicman/stow-dotfiles to see my config) and I left it running to back up and whatever cron jobs needed to happen. I set a shutdown timer with doas shutdown -H 18:00 and left it alone. I came back some time around 18:30-19:00 and the machine was still running, asleep. Keyboard and mouse input failed to revive it, so I tapped the power button a couple times, waiting for a response each time, again to no avail. I don't like leaving my computer running, so I held down the power button until it powered off.

Using NixOS and Arch on separate machines
That's entirely fair. It is a possible sticking point. Hey, you could alias things so similar commands work both places. I have this function in my dotfiles so updates on any system I may run end up being the same command.

Home manager is one way to do that. The other way is leverage imports and possibly flakes. Flakes are a rabbit hole that is going to end up being the future of NixOS based on how things are progressing right now. My config may give you some ideas. I have my config defined as a flake, and I don't use the /etc/nixos file at all.
What are some alternatives?
