Issues with livesplit
Sounds puzzling. Do you know about the browser version of Livesplit? Maybe that would work better for you.
- What speedrun timer is the standard for anyone doing runs on linux
- Is there just a free website that can do spilts without downloading an app or a file?
-
Do I need a visible timer for my runs to be valid?
If you download LiveSplit from the official site https://livesplit.org/ and get a zip folder (that you have to extract) there's absolutely no risk. You could also try https://one.livesplit.org/ (LiveSplit One) that doesn't even install anything on your computer, just runs entirely in a browser

Livesplit alternatives
Livesplit isn't a virus (https://twitter.com/wooferzfg/status/1300559588819902469?lang=en). However, it's a .exe, so you might not be able to run it on Mac products. You could use Livesplit One instead https://one.livesplit.org/. To get your Switch onto your computer, you'd need to get a capture card. I honestly don't know which ones work for Macs, so you'd need to do a bit of research.

Timer
...I guess one last thing is this program only works on PC, if you have a Mac (or chromebook or whatever) the timer selection is very sparse. Though you do have LiveSplit One that runs in a browser https://one.livesplit.org/

Is there any software that would pause livesplit when it sees a specific thing on screen to remove loading times in console games?
As other comment mentioned, a video auto splitter exists which is capable of what you mentioned. I just wanted to add that since livesplit supports customm components, it's possible to just make your own component for an specific game if it doesn't have static images for loading screens, like the case of the crash 4 console load remover.
What are some alternatives?
HitCounterManager - Free Hit Counter / Death Counter that is running in the background, so you can focus on your stream. No need to keep any windows open for a window capture any more. Initially designed for Dark Souls and similar games but supports any game.
