Is there any straightforward guides for getting a monitor to work with my hackintosh laptop via HDMI?
First of all make sure you have a backup of your current EFI then try some patching. Then grab a copy of IOReg and open it. Search for iGPU entry and locate entry (eg. AppleIntelFramebuffer@0 in my case) with a child “display0” it controls the physical display. Select that entry (eg. AppleIntelFramebuffer@0) and on the right panel locate connector type. Then check if it’s set to “00 08 00 00” or not. (This is the connector type for HDMI). If not then. Leave it as it is (in case of laptops it is mostly 02000000). Then open your config.plist in propertree and head to DeviceProperties -> Add -> PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x2,0x0). Then add these entries here (Don’t touch anything already present there just add these) “framebuffer-patch-enable = 01000000”, “framebuffer-conX-enable = 01000000” and “framebuffer-conX-type = 00080000” [IMPORTANT: make sure X in conX is the number you’ll find in the ending of AppleIntelFramebuffer@ which you located previously and make sure it has a child “display0” this is important (in my case=0)] and save the config.plist and reboot. Your HDMI port should be working now. Not 100% sure about it but it works most of the time.

Samsung Monitor not working - looking for recommendations!
In the mean time however, I can recommend a free application that I found worked wonders for my display. While I tried BetterDisplay, and love everything the developer does, I found when changing resolution the process was a bit clunky. Instead I recommend RDM. It is as easy as installing the application, opening it, clicking the little icon in the menu bar, and selecting a resolution with a little lightning bolt next to it (HiDPi resolution) which should give you a crisp, well scaled, external monitor. Then every time you restart your max it should automatically open the application and apply these settings!

How to screen not move when mouse pointer reaches edge of the screen while zoomed in?
The software they discuss, RDM (https://github.com/avibrazil/RDM), allows you to force a specific resolution, and will likely send you down the right path. To use this, You will probably have to change the resolution before you launch your game, and then change it back afterwards, otherwise you’ll find yourself losing items behind the notch in the menu bar.

Yeah, using non-Apple monitors with a mac is a pain. Try "Retina Display Manager" - https://github.com/avibrazil/RDM - as it allows you to switch to the sharper HiDPI resolutions supported on your monitor.
