LaTeX for publishing tabletop role-playing games
> Creating a theme for tabletop role-playing games would take some elbow grease
The article links to several, including a convincing reproduction of basic Wizards of the Coast house style for D&D 5E:
https://github.com/rpgtex/DND-5e-LaTeX-Template
Here's another 5E one with additional sidebar styles:
https://github.com/anoderay/DND-5e-LaTeX-Template/
Also 5E-inspired, with a template for card accessories:
https://github.com/Krozark/RPG-LaTeX-Template
A 5E-compatible character sheet:
https://github.com/matsavage/DND-5e-LaTeX-Character-Sheet-Te...
CTAN also has packages for Basic D&D-inspired typesetting (rpg-module, also linked from the article), GURPS (gurps), generic hex boards (hexboard), and wargame hex boards with counters (wargame).
There are also indie TTRPGs that've shipped using custom LaTeX templates; this one has CC-BY licensed source: https://github.com/ludus-leonis/nipajin
And the blog author's own, with a more restrictive CC-NC-SA license: https://github.com/Vladar4/itdr
From personal experience, the biggest struggle is non-rectangular text wrapping around images.

What is the current status of Latex?
Started using LateX for academic papers, back in 2002, nowadays I use Latex for almost everything, for my work as a professor - which includes papers I submit and teaching materials I write - but also for formal letters, contracts and even games - see for example D&D 5e Latex. Latex is used for tons and applications in different fields, and its vast library is a small sample of that.
- Do you guys write your own primers/booklets/zines for your players? Looking for tips for publishing a 'players guide' with house rules. (DND)

What app should I use to actually write the system?
Use Overleaf, once you know Latex you can create easily a decent write up, especially when you use DND-5e-LaTeX-Template as a basis.

Since a lot of you wanted me to share the CSS from my previous PHB 5e style journal post, I cleaned it up a bit, recreated some images to avoid copyright issues, and uploaded it to github! Link in the comments
Font credits. All of the fonts in this CSS are from https://github.com/jonathonf/solbera-dnd-fonts. Kudos to this resource and its contributors!

Do programs or apps like Homebrewery/DMBinder that let you make professional looking stuff that don’t require you to know programming languages?

The raw Affinity Publisher source files can be found here (132 MB) if you want to make additional modifications! Note, you’ll want to also get your hands on the wonderful Solbera Fonts to assist you in doing so.

Probably easy question: This font is the default, non-italic version, yet it registers in Affinity Publisher as 'Italic'; how could I fix this? More info in comments.
This is a libre font, (repo link) so I downloaded a copy and had a quick look. The regular and bold files have their italic angle attributes set to 11.85°, which is obviously a mistake, and explains why Affinity thinks they're italic.

How do people make pages for their monsters that look like they're out of the Monster Manual?
People have already answered with Homebrewery and GM Binder, both of which are fantastic free tools. If you're feeling energetic, the only other option I know of (probably the best option for places where Internet is slow) is to install Solberra's free D&D font-alikes and use these templates.
What are some alternatives?
