How to Calculate Earnings?
I use BitBook (https://github.com/C-Otto/BitBook/) to track my on-chain expenses, and have a look at lncli fwdinghistory (which I process into a database) to reason about my off-chain fees.

Has anyone done the math
Yes. The new version of rebalance-lnd aims hat only creating rebalance transactions that help you earn more in the future (assuming your fee rate configuration is a good indicator of what to expect). With BitBook you can track all on-chain transactions, including channel close/open and sweep transactions.
