[Tip] you can use powercuff with a few other tweaks to make basically an enhanced low power mode.
Install powercuff (http://rpetrich.com/repo), activator, Activator listener for powercuff and ActivatorNotificator (on bigboss). From there you basically can just set up Activator to put your device into heavy/moderate/no throttling and use ActivatorNotificator to send you a notification when switching modes. I personally have my shortcuts all in the top left corner of the status bar (tap to turn throttling off, double tap for moderate, hold for heavy).

[discussion] you can control the charging speed by selecting “moderate” option in powercuff . It limits your iOS charging speed to 3 watts. This can be helpful if you want to increase battery longevity. I use it along with battsafepro (plugged in to always be at 60% charge) for best battery health.
In case it helps, you can use Activator to disable Powercuff (or set it to a lighter mode) when connected to charger and enable ‘Moderate’ or ‘Heavy’ mode when disconnected with Activator listener for Powercuff: https://github.com/tomaszpoliszuk/ActivatorListenerForPowercuff/releases
