Anyway, back to Arduino. Read their official note https://github.com/arduino/arduino-create-agent/wiki : "[...]the Arduino Agent performs well in Rosetta 2 mode." So, yeah, it's supported, under emulation.
External mice work just fine up to 3 buttons and a scroll wheel. Beyond that you need to either have a mouse with a Mac-specific driver or use SensibleSideButtons (https://sensible-side-buttons.archagon.net/). I strongly recommend Logitech MX Master 3, it works great on macOS, Windows and Linux. The former two have first part support, the latter through Solaar.
