I'm trying to get the most out of my OS (Arch with X11 and Awesomewm), but I'm stuck with the widgets. I would like to create/use some utilities like an interactive calendar, small TODO list, dropdown menu, etc. but using the awesomewm widgets is too difficult and limiting. I found eww but it seems as difficult as the former widgets.

Project mention: WiFi and Ethernet disconnecting on Asus X670E-E (AX210 / I225-V) | /r/archcraft | 2023-07-05
I did try other kernels and what worked with me is to basically create a custom arch install. There seems to be a specific kernel/driver combination that works well with the WiFi/Ethernet drivers on my board and I can't just force some wifi drivers on the current kernel (I think 81.ucode is the latest one for the wifi but its using a version lower than that which I've already tested by force loading). For now I'm very much thankful that you can basically study and copy Archcraft's code/packages/configs (and my backups as well) and set it up on my custom arch install though it did take a few hours but I probably managed to restore 90% of my previous setup as everything is already on github. As a bonus, I did use u/adi1090x polybar-themes as well (https://github.com/adi1090x/polybar-themes) and study to integrate that pywal effect and basically add and integrate that on top of the default themes. But its just too cumbersome to edit one by one rather than having an already available distro so I'm still hoping for a permanent fix if any of you guys have an idea.

Yes, I used that before I tried to have a notification center. I grabbed this code from a unixporn master (probably https://github.com/rxyhn/yoru), which does not use naughty config. I will tried later to have a notification center using naughty config, if that may work. Thanks!

My work on AGS, so far, has been mostly focused on adding support for additional features that weren't available before. I implemented the possibility to write your own PolKit agent in AGS and have just recently gotten secure session locking via the ext-session-lock-v1 Wayland protocol working. I still need to clean up the code and send PRs upstream, though.
That said, my config is available on GitHub [0]. If you want to see much more complete setups, you should check out the configurations by Aylur (creator of AGS) [1], kotontrion [2], or end_4 [3]. I'm sure there are lots more that are notable, but these immediately came to mind.

But how do I just run/open the god damn program? I've already installed dooit through the pip command and I know that's the right file location. I can literally see the file, just cant double click to open it any other way than with python. And the website doesn't have much more than some graphics of it.

Lots of what the article talks about pertains to the difference between a 'full DE' and 'just a WM'. Gnome and KDE fall in the first category. They have a notification system, lockscreens, app launcher, etc by default. Hyprland doesn't. It puts windows on your screen and allows you to control their layout, everything beyond that, you can add yourself.
This article mentions dunst for notifications, Rofi for app launchers, Waybar for a status bar, swaylock for screen locking, ... I've been having a great time using just AGS [0]. AGS, at its core, is a framework to write all of those tools. It is based on the same technology that Gnome Shell uses, i.e. GJS. You can build up all of the widgets you want and need using Gtk and replace all of the tools I mentioned before. But be warned: AGS only provides you with the libraries you need, you'll still need to build the UI yourself. Unless you copy someone else's configuration of course ;)
