On this end, I am a big fan of the ProCAT writers, mostly because of the communications protocol they use, which allowed me to connect my writer to my laptop, start my CAT of Choice (then digitalCAT, now Plover), and start writing. No need to mess around tapping keys to make sure it's working; it was just ready to go.

for these, where it says starter, you just press all those keys down, and then on the other side you press the keys listed for what you want. so for example, I can enter like ~104 symbols without moving my hands. the average sybmol layer has like 20. the crossplatform movement dict lets me move around much easier in any text field. (note that you don't really even need to know what the key names you are pressing are as its all a pattern) I currently have six other dictionaries that I use some of the time. you can see more here: https://www.openstenoproject.org/stenodict/.
any cli program would be very easy to add most of the commands to a dictionary if you wanted. for example, a basic git dictionary: https://github.com/didoesdigital/steno-dictionaries/blob/mas...
plover has made using a computer much more fun. its a bit of a hard sell for a lot of people, but I recommend trying out some of the other dictionaries to see what you can do besides type words fast. its seriously really crazy that we are only pressing one key at a time using a keyboard.
Project mention: What types of switches are compatible with the yask steno keyboard | /r/stenography | 2023-06-27I don't know enough about keyboards. Are kailh choc low profile switches compatible with the board? Or do i need to go with another low profile switch. How do i do this. Hopefully someone else has done this project which is why I'm asking here. I'm not sure how to do this. I would like low profile as that is more comfortable for me. I know I've seen people discussing the Michela machine on the theory development tab just recently, and there are other people working with the machine there who can help you. I think a lot of people are making their own keyboards as well. I have some other links for you to check out along those lines. The Michela machine channel, Michela Stenotype And The Universal Alphabet, and there are a few github and other such sites that will be useful here, here, here, here, here, and here.
