  • MapStruct

An annotation processor for generating type-safe bean mappers

Project mention: Using MapStruct and Lombok with Inheritance | | 2022-09-22

When my pairing partner and I ran into this use case, we were initially stumped. Even our combined Google Fu efforts were not turning up a good solution. However, we eventually discovered a PR for MapStruct that seemed to be the solution to our issues! But, of course, if it were that simple, I would not be writing this now. The SubClassMapping annotation provided by that PR, while quite helpful, requires specific Mapping annotations for every field on the subclass. We wanted a more elegant solution.

Project mention: React map libraries overview + react-leaflet complete installation debugging guide | | 2022-07-28

React Simple Maps Great library in general. It is very easy to use and has decent documentation with some examples as well. Also as the name goes, it is very lightweight. However, it did not suit my purpose of needing to display precise locations with markers. Yes, it is possible to do so by using React Simple Maps, but I would need to redesign the whole map template which was not worth putting in my effort and time while there are already existing libraries that have maps with great default templates.

  • elevation_mapping

Robot-centric elevation mapping for rough terrain navigation

Project mention: System Requirements for elevation_mapping Package? | | 2021-10-05

My lab's working on incorporating the ANYbotics elevation_mapping package ( into our robot. The plan is to use several Intel RealSense (or other RGB-D) cameras to provide data that the rover will use to build its elevation map of the surrounding environment. The trick is that this seems to be incredibly slow: my laptop doesn't have a very good graphics card and so the elevation_mapping demo that comes with the package runs incredibly slow. For our application, we need the process to run fairly quickly, but we're confused as to how to spec a computer for running this package on board an actual robot.
