Project Infinity (PI): Project Infinity is a new tool from AL|EN, one of the BWS contributors, and worth a look. Its goal is to provide the same level of functionality as BWS without the unmaintainable aspects of the project, e.g. it gives optional tools for modders to provide install order information, or you can use community-derived install orders. You can get started with the PI documentation or this tutorial video from morpheus562. PI is still in development.

The mod imports SoD items to BG2EE as well as many new arcane and divine spells (like Darkness 15' Radius, Trollkiller's Fireball, and Crushing Earth).
Quests/Other Content. Once you've got a solid base, it's time to start adding actual content. Examples include Ascension or BG Quests and Encounters.
Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items are both great mods. They do a lot to make different weapon groups more viable, so taking halberd or bastard sword proficiency feels like a better option.
Cowled Menace: a trilogy-spanning quest involving the Cowled Wizards and the Twisted Rune.

And Skip Chateau Irenicus is the DBG-equivalent I use.
Adrian is great, especially with Jaheira. The two interact so much that he has a different epilogue depending if they're both in the party (and no, they don't romance each other if that's what you're thinking).
