Top 23 Decoder Open-Source Projects

  • ultrajson

Ultra fast JSON decoder and encoder written in C with Python bindings

Project mention: The fastest tool for querying large JSON files is written in Python (benchmark) | | 2022-04-12

I asked about this on the Github issue regarding these benchmarks as well.

I'm curious as to why libraries like ultrajson[0] and orjson[1] weren't explored. They aren't command line tools, but neither is pandas right? Is it perhaps because the code required to implement the challenges is large enough that they are considered too inconvenient to use through the same way pandas was used (ie, `python -c "..."`)?

    Project mention: Shine: A super fast fixed-point MP3 encoder | | 2022-04-11

And for the other direction, there's minimp3:

    I've used minimp3 to implement a MP3 player on a STM32 microcontroller. Works great. :)

  • bddisasm

bddisasm is a fast, lightweight, x86/x64 instruction decoder. The project also features a fast, basic, x86/x64 instruction emulator, designed specifically to detect shellcode-like behavior.

Project mention: Just released v0.2.0 of bddisasm - a no_std x86/x86_64 instruction decoder which aims to provide as much information as possible about an instruction | | 2022-01-05

You're probably right. The library was first developed for our in-house hypervisor and memory introspection engine, which needed a way to analyze and emulate instructions, so one of the main goals is to make this as easy as possible. There's a really really small [emulator]( example in the repo that showcases this.

  • libjxl

JPEG XL image format reference implementation

Project mention: FFmpeg Lands AVIF Muxer For This Image Format Based On AV1 | | 2022-05-13

If you want to do lossless yuv420 in a jxl bitstream, you'll need a custom encoder atm. If you want to try it, you could take an old libjxl where this functionality was experimentally supported, see e.g.

  • json-rust

    JSON implementation in Rust

Project mention: Are there any rust libraries implementing a CSS-like language? | | 2021-09-25

You can use my crate jss which is essentially just json with field and values of a css properties. I used the json crate here since it allows omitting double quotes on fields that are valid rust identifier. The jss crate has a generated css properties which are used as lookup, transforming to and fro kebab-case properties into snake_case in order make the css code a bit cleaner, while still allowing the use of double quoted fields.

Well there's a polyfill if you need it:

As others have said: if the bulk of your traffic is people using the latest hardware, then polyfills are probably overkill. If you need to cater for more niche target audience using legacy hardware, then by all means, use polyfills.
