  • dockcross

Cross compiling toolchains in Docker images

    Project mention: Stable or unstable distros for cross-compiling? | reddit.com/r/embedded | 2022-08-02

Docker is great for self-contained build environments, no risk of them breaking each other. Eg. https://github.com/dockcross/dockcross

  • mxe

    MXE (M cross environment)

Project mention: Because cross-compiling binaries for Windows is easier than building natively | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-06-18

I used to use MXE [1] to compile fully static Windows binaries on Linux VMs hosted with Travis. It needed to crane in everything though, so it was a source of bottlenecks from time to time. I was also uncertain about the provenance of a lot of the dependencies in that toolchain. So when Travis died I took the opportunity to move Windows builds back to gnu with msys2, all over GH Actions. These are actually comparatively snappy and I’m reasonably satisfied with it.

  • musl-cross-make

Simple makefile-based build for musl cross compiler

Project mention: Alpine Linux: Brilliant Linux Distro | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-03-10

I've done the same alpine trick for static binaries but may I introduce you to musl-cross-make?

    https://github.com/richfelker/musl-cross-make

Just burned out static toolchains that make me static binaries for all architectures gcc supports. Much like musl.cc but they suggest building your own and I do.

I use these toolchains on debian (/ anywhere a non-ancient linux kernel runs) to make static binaries, you can too!

  • zipcpu

A small, light weight, RISC CPU soft core

Project mention: What make xilinx fpga runs soft core cpu faster than lattice | reddit.com/r/FPGA | 2022-03-27

check out this usage chart for the ZipCPU's logic usage (also linked above). Each line in the chart beginning with Zip represents a different CPU configuration. If the FPGA speeds were the same (they aren't typically), then each configuration line should have the same CPU speed (not counting interconnect, RAM or peripherals). Two of the columns measure iCE40 4-LUTs and Xilinx 6-LUTs.

  • raspberry-pi-cross-compilers

Latest GCC Cross Compiler & Native (ARM & ARM64) CI generated precompiled standalone toolchains for all Raspberry Pis. 🍇
