The communications platform that puts data protection first.

  • Project mention: Rocket.Chat: Surprising user limit in 6.5.0 | | 2024-01-19
  • Mattermost

Mattermost is an open source platform for secure collaboration across the entire software development lifecycle..

  • Project mention: Slack AI Training with Customer Data | | 2024-05-16

This feel like a corporate greed play, on what should be a relatively simple chat application. Slack has quickly become just another enterprise solution in search of shareholder value at expensive of data privacy. Regulation of these companies should be more apparent to people, but sadly, is not.

I would recommend as an alternative.

Developers then have ready-to-use code, which makes their workflows faster and more efficient. Penpot's latest version receives a new grid CSS layout, new UI, new components system, and more components. Oh and there's now light AND dark mode ๐ŸŽ‰.

  • Project mention: Ask HN: Do you run your own DNS servers? | | 2024-05-21

Mail-In-a-Box (MIAB)[1] comes with a built in nameserver. I think you may use it as a standalone DNS even for the domain names whose email is not managed by MIAB. Not sure about any benefit of doing it this way though.

  • Lemmy

๐Ÿ€ A link aggregator and forum for the fediverse

  • Project mention: Reddit must share IP addresses of piracy-discussing users, film studios say | | 2024-01-14

Lemmy is like Reddit and here because it has threaded comment discussions.

It's also federated, so you can pick a server you like and have discussions with users from various servers together.

Some Reddit apps switched to supporting Lemmy instead when they were kicked off the API.

I'm just happy they resisted the buyout by Microsoft.

    > Matrix looks really close, but it needs ALOT of love.

Matrix is just a protocol. Clients competing with Discord would be things like Element.

It's no Discord (which itself is no WLM, by the way), but I sorely hope it or something open source gets there one day.

  • Tox

  • Project mention: Discord has been using ML to determine the gender and age of some of its users | | 2024-05-13

I'm a big fan of Matrix, and run a small homeserver for my family in friends. But if you really want to explore the frontiers peer to peer seems really intriguing because you don't need any server. just to name one.
